Strategies & Trade Journaling
Learn how strategies organize your journal and how trades are synced automatically from MT5.
Trade journaling is a cornerstone of performance improvement. Ascentrade automates the logging process while retaining custom qualitative inputs.
1. Create a Strategy
Before journaling, define the strategies you trade:
- Go to the sidebar, select Strategies, and click Create Strategy.
- Fill in the strategy name, descriptions, rules, and select the timeframes and assets it works best on.
- A strategy is global: it can be linked to trades across any of your connected MT5 accounts.
2. Automatic Trade Detection
Once your MT5 account is linked:
- Execute a trade on your standard MT5 mobile or desktop terminal.
- Within seconds, Ascentrade detects the ticket execution and sends a push notification to your phone or web dashboard.
- Clicking the notification opens a quick-entry modal.
3. Completing the Journal Entry
Fill in the quantitative and qualitative details:
- Strategy Used: Map the trade to one of your pre-defined strategies.
- Entry Timeframe: Specify the chart timeframe you used to make the entry.
- Qualitative Notes: Describe your mental state, market setup, or lessons.
- Screenshot Attachment: Upload an image of the chart at the moment of entry.
- Click Add Entry to lock it. The system automatically pulls opening prices, swap, commission, execution timestamps, and volume data from MT5.
- When the trade is closed on MT5, the journal is updated automatically with the final profit, exit price, and execution duration.
